um, radio controls, a la Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G, WiFi HotSpot enable/disable feature.

Weren't they just updated in October? Yes it may be closer, but not for a while yet considering the last update was over a year.

the sandy bridget turbo boost will give good CPU performance upgrade from current MBA

    but with lower GPU performance

mostly more battery life also, so it is due for refresh as well, MBA is currently selling well, so will receive a nice upgrade cycle compared to the old MBAs cycles (one year minimum)

Shooting to maim is a myth.

Anybody who's undergone firearms training for self defense (or law enforcement) is trained to remove the threat. Shooting to "maim" doesn't remove the threat. You try to shoot a guy in the leg and it presents two problems:

    1. The leg is a narrow target, easy to miss
    2. The guy can still shoot back with his now hurting leg

Handgun users (either for private use or professional use) are taught to shoot center mass. The head shot was most likely a stray round and not intentionally. This guy was probably aiming center mass.

At this price point and with these features - they may push even more customers away from the mac pro and towards the iMac. Even for some pretty heavy lifting, it's going to be a beast of a machine.

I can say from experience that the i7 SB is a wonderful CPU. It competes with or beats the top end 6 core processors in apps that are not heavily multi-threaded.

It's pretty nice that those dell 30 inchers are almost exactly the same size as the iMac.

Absolutely. If going Mac Pro route you still need 3 ACD's. Going iMac route you just need two ACD's. I still doubt I will need the power of i7 for my PHP/MySQL coding but I will take it. :)

Interesting how a security guard is allowed to have a gun. Interesting to see what happens to him.

Most likely nothing. Read the article.

That statement is pure speculation and I have not seen that anywhere *official*. Until it actually happens, it hasn't happened.
It came directly from VZW executives.

Here is an article from Business Week.

    http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-03-01/verizon-wireless-will-end-unlimited-data-plans-for-iphone.html

    First two paragraphs.

It will be there for a while. However, everyone knows what Verizon does best and that is being the most expensive and greedy. They will not allow the unlimited data to continue when no other carrier readily makes it available.

    Or this one (http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/03/suissa-computers-offers-up-custom-wooden-pcs/)
    :D

I have no problem with Greenpeace being at the show as long as they back up their findings with facts and conduct themselves in a civil manner. If Microsoft stepped out of line at the show, I would expect them to be kicked out of the show as well.

I love that first one; it's even got the Apple minimalist motif about it.

Didn't the first Apple I's come in a wood case as well?

And if you are looking for specs from unannounced products from Apple, you are going to quickly get used to being disappointed.

Mate I've been following MacRumors for many years. I don't need a description of the website.

You miss the point entirely. The site is all about speculation, fact or fiction, about forthcoming products. However, there's nothing in this "news" piece that's worth speculating. Nothing we can't figure ourselves.

It's still news whether it's classed as a rumor or not. However, there's no substance of worth in this news. That was the point.

whatever and whenever it shall be, it won't be too soon.

I just will buy it, hopefully we can do so, unlocked, independently of the carrier. Today's phone are just plain crup.

Unfortunately it will have a camera, it appears, which really sux, I hate those cell phone cameras especially here in the US where we are so behind that they charge you a fortune to send pics with the phone.

Also people fail to point out that we don't know the other company's contracts. Someone said that other booths had free range and were giving out things all around. For all we know they negotiated for a larger handout space. If companies like LaCie and Adobe threatened to pull from the show unless they could hand out things all over the expo I'm sure MacExpo would have allowed it. If did the same, MacExpo wouldn't have any problems with not giving them a booth. They could have easily handed out fliers across the street.

Why am I not surprised ... At least in this case the data is stored on my devices. We all know that cell phone locations are being tracked (and stored somewhere out of my reach) - whoever doen't want anybody else to 'track' the location anyway shouldn't have a cell phone (or only a cheap prepaid one that he payed in cash for) ... I travel a lot around the world and it was pretty cool to see those maps of my travels and hit the 'play' button.

Close, Manic Mouse. I dont understand people's belief that every Intel chip made has to go into an Apple machine. I doubt the Conroe will be used in any Mac nor the Kentsfield. The range is covered, and I'm sick of these silly rumors of Mac mid towers.

There wont be a mid tower, not now, not "Next Tuesday".

The thing is that it is very easy to layout a reasoning as to why Apple should/will use a Conroe chip in its line up. It is very difficult with the current product lineup to show why they wont.

As noted in a previous post, there is a $1000US price gap in their lineup that has been left in the lineup. There is currently a chip that would fill in that gap. This machine would steal slightly from both the lower and higher priced machines, yet open another market segment.

Apple has seen massive growth in the laptop market with the iBook. The MacBook perfectly filled a need with a certain market segment. The desktop Macs cover all of the segments except 1. This big gaping hole in their lineup has the perfect processor to meet its needs. Apple has designed a new case style for the Mac Pro. A smaller version would be simple to build re-using many of the components allowing for some economies of scale. This makes both the Mac Pro and the smaller sibling more cost effective in terms of components and assembly line manufacture.

The argument against goes. Well apple hasn't had a mid range headless machine since the G3 era. Which is of course true. However there was no way to differentiate products because there wasn't enough variability to the chips.

    We now have:

    Duo<Duo 2 (Merom) <Duo 2 (Conroe) <Xeon (Woodcrest)
(Mini < iMac < Mac < Mac Pro)

So just because Apple has had a big hole in its product matrix for the last few years means that it will continue to have a big hole in its product matrix until the end of time? Apple left that hole because it wasn't possible to create enough distiction between the product lines if they closed it. Now with the processors available from Intel, it is possible.

Apple is out to make $$$. It is a big corporation, and one that we all (usually) like because of the innovative easy to use products it delivers. It is making a MASSIVE consumer push right now. If a midrange machine will make them the most dough that is what they will deliver.

SJ likes clean product lines and that is what is going on.

    Shuffle < Nano < iPod (< vPod)
    MacBook < MacBook Pro
    Mini < iMac (<Mac) < Mac Pro
    X-Serve

They are all very clean product lines. The reason they destroyed all the product lines was that they had:

    PM 5XXX
    PM 6XXX
    PM 7XXX
    PM 8XXX
    PM 9XXX

And there were overlapping prices and specs and God knows what. Unless you were a regular koolaid drinker it was extremely tough to keep track of what did what in the product matrix.

This will be a very clean and easy to understand matrix.

No win situation to continue with the lawsuits.

The patent could be invalidated I'm certain.

However look at the speed that the patent office displayed in dealing with the NTP patents that Blackberry infringed upon. Glacial. That cost RIM $450m, plus the lawyer fees, that's the cost of staying in business for them, a halt to sales and service would have killed them.

By the time the patent office would have invalidated the patents (2010 say), Creative would have won the court case (previous look and feel cases notwithstanding) and the damages could have been a lot higher. A small payment (for Apple) and the problem is gone, the worry is gone, the lawyer fees for a court case won't happen, no uncertaintly, and I'm sure that the deal also includes a 'no more lawsuits' condition. It probably is the best deal in terms of shareholder value. Instead the final deal does appear to be a win/win situation for both companies.

Chalk up another win for the broken patent system though.

The simple fact is that I should not have to obey a 70mph speed limit if I don't want to. Why would I even bother driving a car that can hit 186mph (with the speed governor removed, with the governor top speed is 155mph) at 70 mph? A Ford Fiesta can hit those speeds, what's the point of fast cars if you're going to follow the speed limit in them?

Ha ha, You are nuts. Let me tell you how it works.

Nobody gets rich by curing a disease. That is why diabetes, AIDS, HIV etc are all treated with "Keep you alive but not cure you drugs" that you have to buy for the rest of your life. The government and drug companies are in it together and are pure evil. Ain't nobody going to cure anything unless they can keep making money doing it. Get it? Good.

total BS and an insult to any scientist and doctor working overtime like crazy to find cures. sounds like a conspiracy theorist or a 13 year old speaking.

"Shooting To Wound" is purely a product of television, movies, and video games. In real situations where gunfire is exchanged, milliseconds count, and center mass until the target is down is the ONLY reality.

Although the semi-official word out of Apple Americas is that invitations to the event have "not been sent" out, a seemingly inadvertent leak out of Apple Europe last week pinned the affair for Tuesday, September 12. It will be hosted by Jobs in a yet-to-be disclosed California location and beamed via satellite throughout the world.

Jobs will have much to talk about during the event, sources familiar with the chief executive's plans have said, including new iMacs and a much-anticipated update to the iPod nano. But the real push, they say, will be tied to the big screen.
