first: in the browse by artist/song/genre listings, provide an alphabetical jump-list so people don't have to scroll through the entire catalog.
right now it's not a problem to scroll through the entire database -- it's at a size where this can still be done. but once you hit critical mass, i'm imagining a scenario where someone wants to look at the content on a scope somewhere between a full-catalog browse and a specific search. accessing what's in the database might be an easier task if the information is available at several different granularities.
second: (and this may be what user jbembe recently suggested; i'm not sure if i followed that thread correctly) provide a weighted song-recommendation function. pick a song, or a group of songs, from your playlist. other people's playlists are scanned, and playlists that contain your selection(s) are retrieved, providing a pool of songs that have been recommended by people who share some portion of your musical interests.
these select playlists are then examined, and if a song exists on (just for instance here) 50% or more of these playlists then it's assumed that the song has some merit and isn't just one person's fancy. lastly, if the song doesn't already exist in your own playlist, it's recommended to you.

There's no reason to panic. They often never actually are at 100%. It should stay in the mid 90s for most of its useful life, so that's completely normal.

My cousin's iHome randomly stopped working a few days ago. It still charges her iPod touch but the screen on the iHome is blank and music plays through the iPod's speaker instead of the iHome's speakers. Does anyone know if this is fixable or is the thing dead? It's an iHome iP90 if that helps. I tried searching but I couldn't find anything.

how about creating some playlists and putting them in there.
I'm still new to iTunes, and I was under the impression that all movies had to go in the Movies folder in iTunes...is that not the case? Can I create playlists with movies in them?
Thanks,
J

No knowledge?
Knowledge 1: Steve didn't like fans. Knowledge 2: Steve was generally wrong on that point.
But you've been given some good advice... give it a try. You've only got the Mac Classic to lose!

1. Open Disk Utility
2. Select your hard drive from the left-hand-side column (NOTE: It's not the Macintosh HD but the one above it)
3. Click the Partition tab
4. Click the + icon
5. Give a name to the new partition
6. Use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as format
7. Define its size
8. Click Apply
Then open the Lion disk image and start installing it to the new partition you just created. No data should be erased.
Thanks!

So my Classic has gone from it's old 20ish hour battery life to a measly 2-2 1/2 hours if I'm lucky.
My question is has anyone bought a good battery for the first gen 80GB Classic and if so does it outperform the old stock one?
Thanks!
iFixit.com ... try them...

WD Green drives don't raid correctly due to the power saving features. Go for either scorpio blue or the black label drives.
I'm running a MyBook WD raid with two 1tb green drives and it works perfectly for me.

I would use Arctic Silver 5 as your paste but any of the "premium" pastes will do. The cheaper ones may not have the advertised metallic silver content if they use it at all.
For cleaning your new processors and getting old thermal paste off, ArctiClean is excellent - a few cotton buds will make quick work of old paste.

Use Handbrake. Its free and it has iPad specific profiles. You also get good control of the file size, with the understanding that smaller file size typically means lesser picture quality.

Hi there,
I recently reinstalled my Mac, but I forgot to backup and now I need a very important file that I deleted because I ereased the whole disk. Is there a way to get it back? I have no Time Machine backup, but it's really important.
If it is important you can get it off a backup. If there is no backup, it's not important. If your having trouble with your backup maybe we can help you.

Either use Time Machine to regularly backup your hard drive however if you're formatting you're probably not wanting to go back to what the drive was like so just use an external drive and occasionally drag over the updated itunes folder which will have all your music in.

I'm looking for a program to convert avi files to mpeg. The videos are very choppy when tr ying to view on the computer. I want to convert, and then burn them, so I can watch them.
Versiontracker turned up alot of software that can do it, but I'm broke right now. I need a free solution.

Its a nice looking thing but can it be a competition entry if it does not promote an Apple product or have anything about Apple in it??
