In order to receive the benefits of ssd wouldn't you want your apps on it instead of the magnetic drive? If your apps are on the magnetic drive your ssd is really only helping improve boot speed, not helping app launch time/response etc.

didn't get a user manual!
If you bought a new or reconditioned machine, you would have received one. Failing that, you can download one from the Apple website.

I cannot wait for it to come out.
Shining Down is definitely one of his best songs, and it's going to be on LASERS.
I have a question though, what's going on with LupE.N.D? That was his trilogy album release that's supposed to come out after LASERS right?

So i just got done taking the second hard drive out of my eMac (Traded out and Optical Drive for a HDD for Time Machine some months ago). Well, i remember that "some months ago" i accidentally ripped the out shell off with no regards to the power switch and it still works, though its less sensitive now, or the time (wait, actually same time) when i kinda "broke" the video connector plastic casing that goes from the CRT Board to the Logic Board, a little of some crazy glue or whathaveyou and i managed to fix my way out of that one too. Combine these experiences with that of my first, err second gen iMac G3 (Same bondi blue, yet no infer red sensor) I even tried to over clock it with my late father's help to no avail, but we were able to undo the over clock and that Mac too is still working. But the real reason for all this is to reminisce on how reliable these older Machines are. Currently, my eMac has made it's way to my Mother's desk as i work on her compaq craptop. Today when i took it apart to remove the time machine drive, after reassembly it wouldn't start. Now usually i'd freak out but after learning all the above, and even some more undocumented instances where i messed up, i learned you need patience. These Mac's just don't seem to Quit working. I've had it to where my iMac wouldn't start, and i changed outlets, and even power cords which solved these issues. Thats why these little guys can be temperamental! Jwhathaveyouust today i had to disassemble, make sure a couple things were fastened (Which i basically just unplugged afew wires and replugged em' in) and then reassemble my eMac. I know I can't be the only one - so feel free to share your story! I love these older machines, they're the most reliable even compared to my new pc (I've had more problems with my new pc than my 5 year old mac) and although they can be temperamental, they never seem to quit.

It really is hard to tell but it was last year, it's a bit too late to worry about whether or not you were shafted.

between this and the new Spymac... 2004 will feel so fresh!
I also just saw video snack bar menus at my AMC theater which totally made me feel like I was in the future! Hooray for new things!
Oh, and this new MacRumors design is coo... feels much more volumetric.

I'm seduced by all the possibilities. As a visual artist without much tech training. I want to sell my kits and artwork online. so many paths.
HELP !
And later, help other artists get a web presence.(selling bandwidth?)
Any opinions? Could anyone lay out the steps towards a prosperous, informative, functioning website.
I have rapidweaver, macromedia studio mx 2004 and adobe cs. I have the artistic skills, photos, is it just a matter of creating it on the computer, finding a host and going from there/ what makes a good host/ I want to be able to sell and reach lots of people. I have such a good product!

2 sticks of 1 GB PC 2700 SDRAM is what you need, officially Apple claims 1 GB to be the max not sure if 2 GB is possible without some sort of software/firmware modification.
Ken,
Thank you very much for reply so quickly! I looked at the PC2700 SDRAM at Crucial and it looks nothing like the RAM I have in my eMac:

Again, thank you for your reply!

Ok. Ok. The damn thing is a fake. How do I know, because an apple rep from the apple store came in the night of the Jaguar release and informed me that four former apple designers came up with the hoax. They built a plastic rendition using a computer and a laser cutter. They then superimposed the newton OS onto the face of the device. The person writing was writing on a the screen, but it was the newton doing all the work. The reason why it looks a little different is they just adjusted the colors and some of the icons to meet a more "OSX" look. Man..that sucks. I know... I know...I should have known, but damn.
Peace.
Peace.

Has anyone find it necessary to close and re-open Chrome, iTunes, and Finder on Mac OSX (SL) from time to time? This applies only if you never turn off your Mac.
I don't use Chrome, but I never have to close and reopen Safari, iTunes, Finder or any other app. The only time I restart is when Software Update requires it.

I am trying to do this similar thing - but I am confused
Do I need a pc software based VPN? Can't I just use my router VPN? I have tried VPN with just iPad and router but not working. I wonder if it is because my ip address to my router from cablevision is not static? Although my router ip hasn't changed since I started trying to do this, it keep failing.
Argh I am so pissed that I can't figure this out even with google
The reason I used a computer based VPN server is because the Apple Time capsule does not have VPN built in. If your router can serve as a VPN server, use your router.
What router do you have?

Whenever I would plug in my iPod Video, iTunes would become unresponsive and I would get the beachball. I'm running iTunes 10.1.2. I have a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook. For some reason I feel like I've had this problem before but I don't remember how I fixed it.

5P, Let's boil this down to two questions...
1. Is it true that wealth is getting more and more distributed into the hands of the rich?
Yes. However, I have a few issues here. First, the wealth IS NOT being 'distributed' to the rich, but rather the distribution of total wealth is changing naturally as a consequence of markets, trends, etc. Second, no one should care about the distribution of wealth. The success of my neighbor (or employer) is not a detriment to me in any way. In fact, it's a benefit as it improves the general economy, opens up new employment opportunities, increases the GDP, brings more money into my community, etc. It's a COMPLETE fallacy that in order for one person to get rich, another has to get poor... we've discussed this several times (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1035668) and the truth is on my side.
2. Does/should the government play any role in the proportioning of that wealth?
No, generally the free market and private charity should. Government generally should not pick winners and losers. Government should not redistribute wealth. That being said, there is a major difference between local governments and the federal government in this regard. One can constitutionally enact welfare, SS, socialized medicine, etc. (State) and one can't (Federal). Also, with so many people reliant on the state for their survival at this point, any transition out of this system of hand-outs, 'entitlements', etc. will need to be a graduated one. This damage was inflicted over 100 years, it can't be undone in just a few.

I don't see this as having anything directly to do with Microsoft's support of Mac products overall. The writing was on the wall for VPC the moment Apple announced the move to Intel; the only question is why it took so long. (But since when does anything at Microsoft happen quickly?) The interesting part of Microsoft's announcement was the timing. Apple and Microsoft seem to have taken to poking each other in the eye. More than a little spite in the timing, to be sure.

could be. but honestly i don't think that's a good thing. it just makes the equipment more expensive, clunky and less capable than dedicated devices. after all you don't need that feat all the time. only once in a while and then you bring the extra gps. cramming a gps in nowadays small P&S or even DSLR's is just expensive and complicated.
my two cents.
Every cell phone sold in the US has to have a working GPS device in it, and the GPS has to be "on" at all times.
Cost and power consumption are hardly issues. The only extra cost is adding an interface to the GPS unit to get the latest location data (which might be the front door of the building you're in if you're inside). The only extra power consumption is that needed to initiate and react to that poll, which is negligible (obviously).
But, yes, adding such a feature on a straight digicam or DSLR wouldn't necessarily make much sense. However, compared to the cost of an external GPS, which records "breadcrumbs" constantly (instead of just when you take a picture, because it doesn't know when you take a picture) and has enough memory and battery to hold said breadcrumbs throughout a, say, two-day road trip, integrating a low-power GPS into a camera doesn't sound all that far-fetched. But, I don't see camera makers doing that until GPS-locating of photos shows signs of taking off, which it doesn't, yet.

"It turns out that the hard drives were overheating and the server would not boot properly because of the heat. The server has been re-racked in open air and the case fan was replaced to remedy the problem."

Hi,
I just got a new 4tb external, 2x 2tb. One to offload lots of media and documents. and the other for backup of macbook and the other 2tb drive.
I'm going to keep the current projects on my mac and make a new library on the external drive to hold archived projects, documents and media.
How can I move a selected number of photos (about 8,000 RAW) to the external HD into a new library called "archived". And keep a "Current" library on my macbook for current projects.
I have moved all the archived projects into a folder in aperture.
If I selected that folder and click export - folder as new library. Will this do the job without loosing anything? I take it i'll create the new library from the folder, then delete the entire folder from my current library on the macbook?
Theres also a couple of options when exporting the new library. Relocated referenced files and include previews, or something similar.
What shall I check?
Thanks,
Luke.
