I was part way through switching to Nikon (I'd bought a D300). I decided I wanted to get a camera more suited to landscape/studio so I figured I was safer switching back to Canon and the 5DII.
Over 18 months later, and I'm glad I did. I never thought it would take Nikon this long to release an affordable 5DII competitor.
Nikon's competitor remains the D3x. Canon has no real competitor to the D700 without paying much more for the 1D Mark IV. The price differences are stark in both cases.

That made me LOL
like this:
HA HA HAAAA
I'll be here all week :)
On a sidenote, it wasn't really meant to be funny, it just makes trolls look stupid when they quote you, or if you forget to come back you get your point across.

The quotes in the article don't even imply the guy said AMOLED screens are better, only that there is only 3-5% less visible difference (using some of that creative math since the actual difference he states is 20%) between the AMOLED screens and Apple's new screen.
Even then it conveniently ignores the fact that AMOLED screens are completely useless outside.
In any case it's a weak and completely ineffectual attempt at muckraking.
Samsung's new "Super" AMOLED are actually somewhat visible outside. They are an improvement in that respect. Besides that, it will have inferior color reproduction and (IMO) over-saturated colors.

The other posters are more diplomatic than me, but the adjectives say it all: "nice", mostly. Check out professional photography in those areas that interest you - landscape, wildlife, by the look of it - and see what top-class work looks like. And they get that quality of shot week in week out: so not only excellent, but consistently excellent.
You need to tighten up on all aspects of your photography, and put 'pro' thoughts to one side until you can meet that quality threshold. Read books, I'd say, and online tutorials, and learn from shooting and being hyper-critical of your own work...

I am at UConn am was thinking of going but now i hear the coop may be selling it for only $70 so I will have to look into that before driving and paying more.
Is this confirmed yet? I'm at UCONN as well and was just going to head down to WestFarms but if the Co-op will have it for $60 cheaper then I'll wait!

I have pretty simple set up here at home but I think I'm at the point where I would like to have some sort of file server, networked hub if possible.
I have an intel iMac, a newer pc with Win7, these are the two main computers in use. I also have an older g5 tower that is not currently being used at all. It has two hd's in it.
I would like to set up the g5 to store all my photos and music, iphoto and iTunes libraries, on and use as a backup. How hard is it to do this? And if I do, can I share with both the pc and the iMac?
I don't have a monitor hooked up to the g5 and I'd rather not have to do that if possible. Should this be wired or wireless? I have a wireless card in the g5.
Thanks for any and all help!

I've been waiting and waiting, like many others for the white iPhone 4 to be released, and have been disappointed. I think I'm going to get a used iPhone 4 black (hopefully in shotty condition for cheap) and buy the white kit and transfer.
Questions:
Will the proximity sensor work?
Will the earpiece work?
Are these faulty in all white conversions?
How bad is the camera really?
Any insight would be very much appreciated.

No, the 6970 is a 2 year old card. It may have come OUT this year.
Being as powerful as a card from 2 years ago and being to years old is something different. The 6970 is from this year not from 2 years ago. However you may be right with the performance.

I should think the faster CPU will have a much greater effect on performance than the GPU. GPU speed is really only relevant for games and video rendering.
Beyond this, no version of LR even uses hardware GPU acceleration, as far as I know.

I'm not going to place my order quite yet though - try and talk me out of it! Haha.
You might want to consider this (http://macperformanceguide.com/Reviews-SSD-Crucial256.html#PerformanceSummary):
Read and write speed is awesomely fast. But there is a hitch: the speed out of the box is a fairy tale that does not hold up with sustained use, although the ongoing speed is still superb.
The speed is actually understated when the drive is first used; fresh out of the box, the Crucial 256GB achieves a blistering-fast 215MB/sec write speed, and 267MB/sec read speed on the DiskTester fill-volume test. Those are fantastic numbers! (The fastest laptop hard drives might sustain 98MB/sec on the fastest part of the drive).
On the second and subsequent fill-volume tests, write speed declines by 17% over the initial results, settling down to a still superb 187MB/sec, about 6% below the rated speed. Furthermore, it develops a periodic stutter, which can be seen in the blue line in the graph. Read speeds drop only a smidgen, remaining above 260MB/sec.

I have an iPod Touch 4g version 4.3.1. I've been checking on youtube hot to jailbreak and there's always a step where I have to download 4.3.1...but i'm already on 4.3.1. Can't I just directly use RedSnow to jailbreak my iPod Touch?
Tethered or Untethered, I don't really mind.
**Sorry, if there's already thread**

i have a bunch of audio wav files that i imported into garageband and then i made another track with midi drums.
there is a point in the song where the tempo drops 10 bpm, and then goes back to the original tempo.
doing the master tempo automation is fine, but the problem is that when i change that section of the midi track and drop it down, all the audio files shift with it.
i want the audio files to not shift and stay where they are on the timeline. I only want the midi track to change tempo.
is this possible?

I don't see it.
no, he's right:
"Design to Go... Anywhere
In a program focused on preparing students with the real world experience theyll need in the workplace, the University of Cincinnatis College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning is arming each of its students with individual PowerBook G5 computers, letting them take their design tools from school to home to work and back again."
what's up with that? yeah, i'd say maybe an eager beaver in the editorial dept.

I am new to go and don't know much about it, but am interested in it.. what are good resources to check out to learn how to play? either online or at the library, and what is that game otello, or is that a seperape entity?
Sensei's library is a great resource for learning. Also, like cayley said, just play. Open an account on Dragon Go Server and give it a try. I'd suggest playing on some smaller boards first (9x9, 13x13), to play fast, and to not worry too much about how you do at first. Just get through some games, and see how you feel about it. If you start out with a 19x19 game on Dragon Go, it might take a month or two to finish it if you're not playing quickly with someone.
It's not the same game as Othello. The two games are completely different except that the game pieces look similar.

i want to be able to hit my machine remotely and get to ~/Documents. i've gotten htaccess working in /Library/WebServer/Documents and made a symbolic link (ln -s) from there to my Documents directory.
% pwd
/Library/WebServer/Documents
% ls -l D*
lrwxrwxr-x 1 root admin 20 Jul 8 00:05 Documents@ -> /Users/zim/Documents
%
when i try to browse to Documents, i get "Forbidden / You don't have permission to access /Documents/ on this server."
i stuck my .htaccess file into that directory, but same thing.
any ideas?
